Selecting the Right Vinyl Flooring for Your Home

Vinyl and other non-textile floorings like linoleum and rubber are referred to as resilient flooring because of their solid nature and ability to flex or 'give' a little when walked on. This type of flooring has advanced greatly over the years, now offering an endless array of colors and patterns. We offer styles such as upscale ceramic, beautiful wood, and intricately designed marble and stone. Resilient flooring also comes in a full range of finishes, embossed and printed with such precision that they look and feel like the real thing!

For increased protection, resilient flooring is made with urethane that includes aluminum oxide particles, which are the same tough topcoat used in wear layers for wood and laminate. This makes these new resilient floors easy to clean and resistant to scratching.

Another option we have available is luxury vinyl tile. This choice is at the high end of resilient flooring, boasting superior performance and looking so authentic that it can be difficult to distinguish as a vinyl product. The high-definition imaging and treated surface texture accurately mimic its natural counterpart.

New designs in luxury vinyl tile include everything from contemporary colors and vivid brights to pearlized finishes and abstracts with soft patterns. Other looks are exotic and distressed woods, colored concrete, fossilized stone, metallics, and wide planks. We can even install vinyl tiles with grout!

Luxury tile can perform better and has an easier installation than wood and stone. Other benefits include never needing to refinish the floor,  no warping due to excessive water, and scratch resistance. Vinyl is also quieter to walk on and is warm to the touch.

We can install resilient vinyl flooring just about anywhere, but it's especially helpful in wet areas and children’s or handicapped rooms where an easy-to-walk-on or smooth surface is a must. Also, resilient flooring is great in niche areas like entryways where you don’t want seams and need an easy-to-clean floor.

Vinyl Flooring Care

Vinyl flooring is typically easy to care for, only really requiring attention after installation and regular basic maintenance. Keep your vinyl flooring looking like new for years to come with these helpful maintenance tips.

After Installation Care

For the first 24 hours after installation, refrain from putting furniture or heavy objects down and avoid walking on newly installed floors as much as possible, especially on the seams. For the first two days, keep the room at 68 degrees or higher to allow the adhesive to set properly.

You should also cover your entryways with non-staining mats to reduce the amount of dirt, sand, and oil that could be tracked in. Avoid mats with a rubber backing because this may cause your flooring to become damaged or discolored.

Another tip is to take your shoes off at the door and be sure to wear slippers or socks because oil from your feet will transfer onto the floor. You should also cover your furniture legs with floor protectors that are made of hard plastic or felt.

Routine Care

We suggest regularly sweeping your vinyl floor to reduce loose dirt and dust. If you choose to use a vacuum, use one without a beater bar to avoid scratching your floor.

Vinyl flooring offers an easily wiped surface, so you can wipe up spills and messes without an issue. When further cleaning is necessary, we recommend occasional damp mopping with a manufacturer-recommended non-abrasive product that rinses clean. Many cleaners can leave behind a sticky residue that allows dirt to build up on your floor, so make sure you use a cleaner that helps eliminate dust particles to keep your floor looking brand new.

To prevent stains, wipe up spills immediately. If you do notice a stain on your vinyl floor, use a non-abrasive scrubbing pad, especially for stubborn stains caused by mustard, ink, permanent marker, asphalt, shoe polish, mold, mildew, or hair dye.
