Pre-Installation Checklist

Once you select your carpet from Carpet Barn, we'll schedule an appointment for a professional installation. To make the installation go as seamless as possible, check out the general guidelines we outline in our pre-installation checklist below. This will better inform you of the installation process and can help keep you organized while getting ready for the installation of your new flooring!

Complete all painting before your new flooring arrives
Designate a space our installers can store and cut flooring materials
Disconnect and move electronics, appliances, or computers
Empty rooms and closets that will be resurfaced
Make arrangements prior to the arrival of our installation crew for the removal of the old flooring
Make sure our installers can access electrical power in the installation area
Remove all hanging objects in the area of installation
Remove and box any valuable items near the area of installation

Some additional considerations depending on your carpet choice and the layout of your home are that baseboards and moldings can be left in place for most installations, but we cannot be responsible for any damage that may occur. Also, if your installation requires sanding, it's a good idea to cover cupboards and furniture in the area.

If you have a preference for the direction of the pattern or layout of your flooring, this is something you should discuss with our experts at the time of the purchase. Many of our carpet styles require additional material to achieve the closest match possible, so we need to be aware of this ahead of time.

Post-Installation Checklist

In addition to preparing, there are also some things necessary for you to consider after the installation of your new carpet, such as:

Allow proper ventilation for 72 hours after your flooring installation by utilizing fans
Hinged doors may require trimming for proper clearance
Thoroughly inspect the flooring upon installation completion and bring any concerns to our attention immediately
Wall, molding, and baseboard touch-ups may be required
Regular vacuuming with a traditional vacuum cleaner (no Dyson, Rainbow, or high-suction vacuum)
Annual hot water extraction cleaning
Have your carpet professionally cleaned with hot water extraction every 12-18 months, and document the same

It's also important to remember every installation has material waste. Leftover flooring pieces are most commonly from irregularly shaped rooms, stairs, or halls. Our installation crew will remove all waste from your new flooring installation. It's your responsibility, however, to clean the flooring after installation.
